![]() an album even better than rumours.īob Welch only plays on a couple of Mac albums, both are pretty darn good. christine mcvie is their trump card as usual and bob welch contributes the best material he ever wrote. the guitar work is excellent as are the songs and the vocals. though of because they had only two songwriters they sound like a real band. If you like the evolving process of bands this is well worth the purchase.Īlbum to me is mystery to me. Bob Welch is an underated musician and Mr Weston smokes on guitar. While nowhere nearly as commercially successful or well known as later Mac albums made with Nicks and Buckingham, Mystery To Me outshines them all. Nary a wasted track as each song flows beautifully into the next. Listen to Westons beautiful opening.Īn extraordinary collection and certainly the best Fleetwood Mac album of the post Peter Greene era. The only thing missing is the aching slide guitar from the studio version.now THAT's tasty.Weston was a great player who did not get his props. Great harmony from Stevie at the end there. It reminds me that these guys had to prove themselves to the fans before the explosion of Rumours. I always love hearing pre-1975 Mac tracks being played by the Buckingham/Nicks era iteration of the group. In fact, check out this great live version from 1975: What a stately album closer, and it definitely points the way towards the sound the Mac would adopt when they recruited Lindsey and Stevie. But for me the best track on the album is Christine's "Why". Has this ever been sampled for a rap song? I know a lot of SHFers are against samples from classic tunes in rap songs, but with the right MC it could be epic. Hypnotized is a key track here love that inside out drum beat. The production is right in the pocket, giving a hearty "warmness" to the instruments. Mystery To Me is a stone cold Fleetwood Mac classic, and perhaps the culmination of the sounds the band tried out with Bob Welch behind the wheel. ![]()
